In the Ucayali region the crafts are pronounced by
groups of native, dedicated to the preparation of
ceramics and the embroidering and painted of looms,
emphasizing the shipibos, authors of exceptional crafts
with original designs, in its majority geometric
inspired by its customs and religious culture,
contributing not only its creation, but also its
extraordinary knowledge of the ecosystem.
The native crafts use extracted totally natural raw
material of the amazonian forest, not using machines or
tools, requiring of a long process for its creación.
It gives as result that all the pieces are unique in
their class, like tinajas of ceramics made with clay
that after finished is roasted to the burnished fire.
The craftsmen work with wood who present variants in
tonalities that are turned, carved in diverse wood
species of the Amazon forest. Also is the fiber crafts
woven for the elaboration of beautiful baskets, hats,
fans, paneras, screens of light and other equipment.
The Maximun skill expression in the Ucayali Region
belongs to the art shipibo that they had in all the
river basin of the Ucayali. They work the mud
elaborating their original ceramics in form of mocahuas,
pots, tinajas and other mud elements of magical,
religious and ritual order.
Also they make necklaces, bracelets, belts, all of them
with seeds elaborate. The decorative arcs, arrows and
lances prepare them with threads of different colors,
pens of wild birds and with rods of chonta (palm).
The shipibos have developed a splendid ceramic and
textile culture. There is no other indigenous culture in
all the South American amazonian river basin that has
reached the artistic level that they have obtained.
